In the upper right-hand corner you will find the GO button for searching the Complete Works. Type a word or phrase into that box. The GO button takes you to the search page, where you can also type in the word or phrase you hope to find. The results will give you the text in which the word or phrase occurs. You may then use Control/F to find the exact place where the reference is located.

EXAMPLE OF A TYPICAL SEARCH

Let's say you want to find the sentence "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."  You can type the words "foolish consistency" in the search window or you can go to the Search page and insert the words there, clicking on EXACT PHRASE. The sentence appears in an article by Harold Bloom and in "Self-Reliance."  Click on "Self-Reliance" and then using Control/F (or Find from the Edit menu) type the words again. The reference will appear in the essay.  If you have trouble with this process, send a note to the Advisor.

Also, the Concordance in the Menu section will take you to the Irey Concordance, which is posted on the site through the permission of Michael Preston of the University of Colorado. The Concordance is over 5,000 pages long and contains every word (except for articles and pronouns) from the Complete Works. The Concordance also has a Key Tp abbreviations for your convenience.
